|26 May 2016
3.30pm - 4.30pm
|Book your place via Steve Smith.|
Event Focus...Join us for a workshop looking at the teaching of energy. We will be sharing various approaches regarding the teaching of 'working scientifically' and the required practicals for the new GCSEs.
|Teaching KS3 Physics: Electricity||Thomas Hardye School
|21 June 2016
3.30pm - 6pm
|Book your place via Judith Wardlaw.|
|Magnets and Electromagnetism||Truro College Campus
|22 June 2016
5pm - 7pm
|Book your place via Matt Bennett.|
Event Focus...This workshop focuses on the effective teaching of magnetism and electromagnetism at KS3-4, with emphasis on successful practical activities.
Join us from 4.45pm for refreshments, including tea and coffee.
|Physics Experiments Using Smartphones||High School for Girls
|23 June 2016
4.30pm - 6.30pm
|Book your place via Alessio Bernardelli.|
Event Focus...Join us for a workshop of physics experiments using smartphones, including mechanics, acoustics, optics and magnetism. The session will be led by Giovanni Pezzi, formerly teacher of physics at the Lyceum “Torricelli-Ballardini” in Faenza, coordinator of the “SMART group” of A.I.F. (Italian Association for the teaching of Physics) and member of the Science Gym of Faenza.
Please bring a fully charged smartphone or tablet with you in order to try the experiments out yourself. This workshop is sponsored by Science on Stage Europe through the "Take a workshop to your country" programme.
Book early to avoid disappointment.
|South West Annual Physics Day||St Luke's Campus University of Exeter
|24 June 2016
9.15am - 3.45pm
|Book your place.|
Event Focus...This popular CPD day features a mix of practical workshops, inspiring talks and congenial networking. All teachers of physics, technicians and trainees are welcome. Sessions will include ideas for those new to physics teaching as well as the more experienced, with stimulating material for use in your labs and classrooms with ages 11 upwards. Refreshments provided.
If you have queries about the event, please contact Alastair Cuthbertson. If you experience any problems with your booking, please email Suzy Gray, or phone 02380 598810.
|Key Stage 3/4 Physics for Non-Specialists: Energy||The Arnewood School
|30 June 2016
4pm - 6pm
|Book your place via Christine Chaloner.|
Event Focus...Join us for a session that starts off by looking at students’ early ideas about energy. We’ll then develop ideas of energy conservation, energy changes in systems, thermal processes and energy resources. We’ll look at the use of sketch graphs to stimulate higher level thinking and ownership of practical work. We’ll also do some experiments, including ice on blocks and investigations into conduction, convection and radiation. Grab a free bag of resources, including a bouncing toy that at first glance seems to break the law of conservation of energy!
|Charterhouse Regional Day||Charterhouse School
|9 July 2016
9am - 4.30pm
|Book your place.|
Event Focus...Join us for another regional day at Charterhouse. There will be a range of workshops to choose from, and a keynote speech on Black Holes and Gravitational Waves from Professor Marika Taylor of the University of Southampton.
