The Physics Teacher Network in Wales
It is widely recognised that the standard of physics teaching that students receive in school is a major influence on their decision to follow the subject at university. The Institute of Physics set up the Physics Teacher Network to provide face to face support for those teaching physics. The core of our support for all teachers and pupils in Wales is provided by our Welsh Physics Network Co-ordinators, who organise free innovative and inspirational workshops for teachers and local events and activities for pupils.
The Stimulating Physics in Wales initiative funded the network in Wales for 2 years including an expanded network in the second year. Numerous events happened during the 2 years and a list of events and links to write-ups can be found here. Some events focussed on teachers and technicians, for example the Annual Welsh Physics Teachers Conference, held in Brecon. Other focussed on school pupils, for example the A-level Medical Physics day in the Medical Physics Department of the University Hospital of Wales.
